Prunus laurocerasus ‘Majestic Jade’
The renowned horticulturist, Dr. Michael Dirr, is responsible for this promising new selection. ‘Majestic Jade’ laurel is the progeny of the famous ‘Otto Luyken’ laurel and is the only selection of laurel to date from Dr. Dirr.
The new leaves are highly colored, with pinkish buds opening with a bronze tint, fading to avocado green before maturing to its final dark green tint. The leathery leaves are the largest and darkest green of any of the laurels that we grow. ‘Majestic Jade’ tolerates sun or shade.
While it is slightly more upright as a young plant, it tends to broaden with age, an almost human characteristic. Not as tall as ‘West Coast Schip’ laurel but taller than ‘Otto Luyken’, its parent.
